Jim Savitt - A Flair For Phrasing
New York guitarist Jim Savitt is making noise in contemporary
jazz/smooth jazz circles with his CD Hear And Now. He's garnered quite a
bit of airplay with his melodic, guitar-driven instrumentals - a welcome
respite from the slew of saxophone dominated contemporary jazz cuts.
Savitt is an ultra-clean player, playing both electric and acoustic
guitars with equal skill, and adding seamless, double-tracked harmony to
enhance his original, world-influenced melodies. Hear And Now is a
perfect CD for winding down at the end of a long day - Savitt's fluid
phrasing making for a special listening experience. Fans of Craig
Chaquico's work, who'd like a little more electric guitar in the mix,
should really give Savitt's CD some ear time.
Jim studied at the Berklee School of Music and has a
bachelor of science degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, where
for two years he was the musical director of their 17 piece jazz band.
He has performed in numerous venues ranging from clubs and restaurants
to festivals and trade show events at large convention centers. Jim was
interviewed and performed live to an audience of 4.5 million nationwide
listeners on the WOR Radio Network's Joey Reynolds Show. In addition, he
has performed internationally including a 2 week stint in Cairo, Egypt
in both 1999 and 2000. Jim was a 2002 headline performer at the WJZA
103.5/104.3 concert series in Columbus, OH.
With 20 years of experience in musical theory and
performance, and an expertise in computer technology, Savitt constantly
seeks out new venues to express his musicality. He was recently
commissioned to compose music for Any Channel, an interactive
entertainment company developing a video game for a multi-player CD-ROM
machine.
